A Guide to Oregon Coast Storm Watching

When other places in the country embrace snowy days, the Oregon Coast welcomes a different kind of winter. The winter months welcome dramatic storms that cause crashing waves to reach up to 300 feet in the air! Nothing compares to witnessing this spectacular display of Mother Nature as you experience Oregon Coast storm watching. Choose to storm watch from the Seaside Promenade or right from the comfort of your hotel room with The Seashore Inn

Tips for Storm Watching in Seaside

The best time for storm watching in Seaside is from November through March. If you plan to watch storms outside, we’d like to give you some tips and important safety information before you go.

  1. Make sure to check the forecast and dress appropriately for storm watching. We recommend wearing a raincoat and boots since you will get wet during the day.
  2. Refer to the Seaside tide tables to find the best times to witness the dramatic waves.
  3. Never go storm-watching at the water’s edge, and make sure to keep a safe distance between yourself and the ocean at all times.

The Best Spots for Storm Watching

If you want to stay out of the cold and rainy weather, you can easily storm watch from your hotel room with The Seashore Inn. Our rooms provide an excellent viewpoint of the beach, perfect for kicking back and enjoying epic storms. But, if you want to witness the storms outside, then check out these spots:

  • The Promenade: Our hotel is steps away from the Promenade, where you can watch for storms without having to worry about driving anywhere!
  • Ecola State Park: This state park is one of the most popular Oregon coast storm-watching spots. Witness breathtaking vistas as waves crash against the rocky cliffs and storm clouds roll in from a distance.
  • Fort Stevens State Park: Make the 20-minute drive to Fort Stevens and witness storms from the observation tower at the park’s north end.
